A bit of background

Welcome. This blog launched on Feb. 28, 2010. I was always a late bloomer. The origin of the name is explained in the first post. The goal is three posts a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sunday is devoted to a weekly feature I’m calling “Random Fact.” Great reader demand could push me to four posts a week with two random facts because I have no shortage of them.

What am I doing? Three years after leaving the longest love of my life – newspapers – the answer is more diverse than I expected. Short list: edit public policy guides and white papers; write about economic development; create content for college websites; analyze health care markets; write about recreational boating; edit a library of sailboat reviews; develop video scripts.

Current and prospective clients can check out the “On the Job” blog category to get an idea of the wide range of subject matter that crosses my desk. A crash course in the world of electric cars, batteries and charging options is next up: Beginning in May, I’ll be the car columnist for In all my spare time, I’ll be reading the 180-page roadmap issued by top thinkers in the field last year.

Nerd credentials appear intact. Technical subjects do not unnerve me; I love a good challenge.

Outside of the word biz, I grow vegetables, make crafty things for future sale on etsy.com, and, with husband, manage three rental properties that we own just blocks away from our home in Nashville. The Zen eludes me still, though I just wrapped up a QiGong class and am starting Tai Chi.

Expect to see blog posts, and categories, on all of the above, and thanks for your patience as I work to develop the Coyle Communications home page and set everything up. Make suggestions, comments, subscribe, tell your friends, torture your enemies.

And thanks for reading.

Pam

Pam:

Great blog … user friendly and very informative. Didn’t know you lived in Franklin, TN. My dear cousin — Jennifer Alldredge — and her family have lived there for years. Don’t know if you’ve bumped into them.

Eric Lindbom and Jeff Reid say: “Hey!” We’re all in L.A. doing various things …

A couple of years ago I was back in Minneapolis and visited the Daily, which has moved over to University Ave. Still a great vibe, although they finally got rid of the old back room couch (remember that?!).

TJ :-)

Tom, tell the guys I said hello. I know I am FB friend with Lindbom, have to check on Reid. Miss the days when everyone called me Coyle, but not as much as I miss my office at the Daily! Only time in my career I actually had an office. I remember the couch well. We actually live in Nashville, relocated here in 2005 from New Orleans after Katrina. Haven’t been to LA in 8 years or so, though we are headed to SF for a trip in April (my brother is there). As for the blog, I was always a late bloomer. Thanks for reading.

Dear Pam-demonium,

You’re so funny, really, truly. The post on fiber’s last line made me laugh. I’m happy you’re sharing your wit and perspective with the eyeballs of the world.

Congratulations on your new bloggie. Way to take initiative!

Love,
Ruby

Thanks, lady. Luckily I have no immediate deadline. Next week I need to spend time on paying work. Life is amusing and provides plenty of fodder, though Pamdemonium will have some serious posts. Just not politics!

Glad I actually looked at Facebook today — not usual for me — because I found your blog. Lovely. Really. I’ll check back to see what you’re up to. turk
